The punch cards were usually sold by the PTAs at the schools and they would charge 51 or 52 cents with the profit going to the PTA. My goal was always to see how many rides I could acutally get on a card. My record was 12 and I still have the card more than fifty years later. Probably other kids could get a lot more. The method was that just as soon as the conductor was going to punch the card you moved it slightly so that he would punch in the printed area in the center part of the card. It was hard to see that there was a punch there, admidst all the words.
And yes I still call them streetcars.
