When the National Park Service cleared away the jungle next to Louis' restaurant last year the workers uncovered the 'footprint' of the Sutro depot. The wooden building was long gone, but the stone and concrete retaining walls along Point Lobos Avenue and a few feet of concrete foundation were still in place.

The archaeologists even found a wonderful enameled sign in the debris reading "Market Street Railway -- Improving San Francisco."
