Charlie Burns: Quiet.
Fast Eddie: Yeah, like a church. Church of the Good Hustle.
Charlie Burns: Looks more like a morgue to me. Those tables are the slabs they lay the stiffs on.
Fast Eddie: I'll be alive when I get out, Charlie.
Thanks Will,
We're talking, so I take it the "truce" is in force ;-)
At Top of the Hill, all I "knew" was enough to keep my head down and my mouth shut. It's proximity to Jefferson High was enough to make this Westlake kid behave as a perfect stranger. Like Fast Eddie says, it was like walking into a church outside your own parish regardless of the rumors that the nun's were all packing swithcblades instead of wooden rulers.
But they had something Swanson's Bowl had neither the space nor talent to accomodate...they had a snooker table.
And here is where I saw the game taken to a new level.
This is what put me on the Mission St. bus, at age 15, to go visit Palace and Cocharn's down town. Now these places, as we have discussed, were catherdrals to the game, with a hieracrchy of legends, saints and sinners possesing international repute. As always, your familiarity with this fraternity is amazing: The Jesuits must have really impressed upon you that the world in your classroom and to live your faith. I not only appreciate and admire the scope of your knowledge but more, the way you have come by it.
I'll rack em...
