My parents bought their house on 22nd Ave and Kirkham in 1941 for $4,500 I think. They had it paid off in 1948/49 and to celebrate we had a family dinner at the Cliff House. And then in 1967 when I bought my first house in the suburbs, we paid $22,500 with a downpayment of $5,000. How times changed. And how the house we have now, has yearly taxes that are higher than what my parents paid for the whole house.
