My parents signed for their place a very short time before Pearl Harbor. They paid between $8000. and $8500. The $60. a month was a killer. As soon as the war started, housing in The City came at a premium.
It's hard to believe that not so long ago, buying a house was a routine purchase. Dad's brother and sister were renters their whole lives. (Insert tears.)
