We lived at 19th and Ortega in 1957 when the quake hit. Pop was at the firehouse and my mom was 8 months pregnant with my twin sisters.

I was playing in the back room with my younger sister (the room was built out on stilts) when it went swaying like crazy. We went running into the living room and watched plaster fall from the ceiling. I don't remember being scared - just excited.

The biggest disappointment was having El Camino Del Mar closed - and never reopened. It's how my day always went to the bridge when we went to San Anselmo to visit my uncle.

I remember the damage to John Muir Drive, too...

It was all pretty cool... :)
