well, John Paul, we could have used Sister Carmella over where I was in 57.
I was in the first grade at St. Monicas with Sr. Celestine Mary.
I was sitting in one of the last rows of desks by the back wall when the quake started. In the corner above me was a statue of the Virgin Mary and it came crashing down near me. A piece of the statue went flying and caught me on the left ankle as I remember. Drew a little blood but I survived.
All the kids were called up front in a circle and they all got down on their knees and started praying.
We ate lunch outside in the play yard, but shortly thereafter we were sent home.
