1957 Earthquake - I was 5 (almost 6) and attending Commodore Sloat on Ocean Avenue - still in kindergarden. I remember drills where we got under our desks and we were let out of school early. My mother came and got me and we went to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park - another temblor hit while we were in the little gift shop and all the merchandise started falling around us so we got out of there quick! I also remember being taken out to the Westlake Shopping Center amd seeing all the cracks in the JC Penney building. I really thought of the whole thing as a big adventure and my mother, being a native San Franciscian, did not seem too shaken up about the earthquakes either. I guess I was so used to them that I don't even remember any in 1963.
