The daily route from the Parkside to Stanyan Street was the 28-Nineteenth Avenue bus, then the 5-McAllister from 25th & Fulton all the way to Stanyan, with a short walk down the hill to the school. The afternoon return trip was always the subject of much debate, with many people arguing that westbound service on the 31-Balboa was more frequent, and that it put the rider in a better position to get a seat on the 28 by boarding at Balboa and 25th rather than Fulton & 25th.

When I was a senior on 37th Avenue in the Fall of 1970, we had a modified school day of 8:10 to 1:20 (with no lunch) to accommodate the still-present construction crews. Many students living in the Sunset were dropped off by Dads on their way to work, or else were able to wangle the family car away from Mom, with the promise that they would have it home by 1:30 & then get back to school in the afternoon with friends to work on sports or other activities. After all those years of bus rides when we were on Stanyan Street, I cannot recall taking MUNI even once to 37th Avenue, even though it would have been easy enough on the L-Taraval.
