We were "THISCLOSE" to moving to Angel Island in 1986, but were "denied" residence when the boat operator realized he would have to make additional rides across the water for school times. Even though this is considered a "discriminating circumstance", at this time there were other applicants w/o children who wanted to take the position. Fast forward to 2006 when we are once again faced with the possibility of moving to AI--w/o children at this point, only to have my husband turn down the offer since the systems he would be operating still required daily trench digging for "trouble-shooting"...Not something he wanted to tackle, especially when you could get into a hole and not have anyone around to "bail you out"!..Oh, well. IF ONLY...
