Myron - Argonne greats were Kindergarten teacher Mrs. McKissick (I was fortunate to have her just before she retired), young hip Louise Jones, and Mrs. Meunier. Not-so-great was Miss Carroll who misinterpreted my boredom (I was reading several stories ahead of the class) as slowness and got me assigned to "Special Class" for the remainder of Argonne with all its attendant academic and social baggage. She wasn't cut out for the teaching profession; several years after we discovered her as a salesclerk at Sears on Masonic. There was a male teacher whose last name I can't recall; I think his first name was Saul, he very much played favorites. My first grade teacher, whose name I won't reveal since we're now on good terms, had a bit of a temper and was quite the disciplinarian...kinda squelched my spirit at the time.
And of course Principal Ann Huddart was an amazing woman. I can't help but wonder what kind of back-room SFUSD machinations were going on to have her "resign" following the fall 1967 semester rather than wait until June '68...the even older gal who was brought in after was a real martinet and facilitated the destruction of the grand old brick school with the deception that merely the roof was to be replaced. Same stuff that got Poly closed and Bal denuded of ornamentation.
No, I'm not bitter ; )
