I was a Traffic Guard at Columbus School in the late 1960's. We had an orange belt that went over the shoulder and we covered them with pins that we earned for a variety of tasks.
I think you could earn 5 pins if a police officer drove by and saluted you. I don't think I ever saw one while I was working.
I enjoyed it and got to see all my friends going/leaving school and made sure they were able to cross the street safely.
