Bands that played the Golden West Y included the Second Life, the Morticians, and the Direct Descendants among others. The Tiki's played there once (to later become the group Harper's Bazaar).
The dances were sponsored by different Y groups until the Beavers started making so much money for the Y that they got the franchise so to speak. Then all hell broke loose and the dance permit was lifted.
The Chair of the Board of Permits (the President of the Olympic Bank on Taraval street) thought kids should be home on Friday nights studying.
We simply all headed off to the Longshoreman's Hall, the California Hall, the Fillmore, the Avalon, Winterland, the Straight, etc. You simply could not stop middle/late '60s and early/mid '70s kids looking for drugs, sex, and rock and roll (in no particular order).
