Loved your post, Holt!
I have a friend (former St. Cecilia classmate and Parish neighbor) who has done a few cemetery "tours" in Colma which focus on the architecture of the mausoleums, stained glass art, and tombstone styles, plus, of course, the history. (Google The Sierra Club - they offer various [free] tours of Colma cemeteries. I mention this because other former St. Cecilia classmates of mine are involved in these tours.)
I LOVE cemeteries!! You can indulge in history, and have the magical experience - communing with the very quiet people who reside in them. My last visit was in 2010 - saying hello to ancestors - what a wonderful day it was!!!
