Regarding the death of FDR and how it affected the young kids of junior high and some high school age - I was one of them, too. Roosevelt was the only President we knew - taking office in 1931 and serving throughout most of world war II, he was the leader most of us kids could rely upon. It hit me, almost 13, very hard - that grief that shakes you and scares you. The adults must have felt it, too. And yet our country carried on - the transition to a new President, as laid out by our forefathers, was smoothly accomplished. And the country swallowed their grief and went on to finish their job, along with our allies, of winning that war.
