I do now and always will remember Herb Caen and his daily column - thankfully, for the time he was with us and regretfully, that it could not have been longer.
There are very few quite unique individuals who have charmed the public to such an extent as the two fellows I have in mind. In San Francisco only two come to mind who did so, each in his own incomparable way. There was a very rare charm and a magic about them we were lucky enough to experience here in our City. Just my opinion, folks - but I'm speaking of Herb Caen and Don Sherwood. Can you come up with anyone else who could even come close? I'm talking about us grown-ups - not kids' heroes.
