I, too, had a bottle cap collection (when the lining was still real cork and not just a plastic disk) that I kept in a White Owl cigar box, obtained free from Mr. Reis at Reis' Pharmacy at 18th & Taraval. The only rule that Mom invoked was "no picking up bottle caps off the street"--but checking out vending machines at gas stations and similar places was fair game. In those days, it was mostly Coca-Cola 7-Up, or Mug Root Beer, with Dr. Pepper a distant 4th. Pepsi was rare in our neighborhood--most people were Coke fans back then.
