Don't feel bad reading the negative comments. Back in the 1950s and '60s people were equally vociferous decrying the demise of then present-day SF.

If you're a native San Franciscan, it's pretty much a litmus test that you grew up hearing your elders grieve the changing city.

Heck, the nostalgia for the past SF even entered the movies. Here's a great quote from 60 years ago by Gavin Elster in Vertigo: "The things that spell San Francisco to me are disappearing fast. .. I should have liked to have lived here then color, excitement, power, freedom."

Sounds exactly like dinner table discourses at my grandparents'.
