Rose/Rachel from Louis'

10/23/16 - posted by Frank Dunnigan - dunnigan<at>sonic.net

Sad news yesterday from the nice folks at Louis' Restaurant on Point Lobos Avenue above the Cliff House:

Our beloved waitress and very good friend, Rachel (Rose) Lelchuk, passed away today. She was 96 years old. Rachel worked at Louis' for 55 years, beginning right after WWII in 1946. She was originally a customer who stopped by regularly after ice skating at Sutro Baths. She befriended our grandparents, Louis and Helen Hontalas, and started working shortly thereafter. She worked until 2002 when problems with her legs made it too difficult to continue. Rachel was like family to us, we would have Christmas dinner together as well as share many other important occasions. Rachel will be sorely missed by our family and the many customers who also became her friends.

There will be a memorial for Rachel, at this time no date has been set. We will let everyone know via Facebook when that date is determined. Thank you and rest in peace, dear friend!!!
