On Feb 20, 1942,75 years ago, the U.S. began rounding up 120,000 Japanese Americans and sending them to relocation campsí They were kept behind baebed wire at gunpoint for the duration of the war. Their only crime was to have Japanese ancestry. They receivd no benefits when thousands of their young men served in an all Japanese American Army unit, the 442nd Infantry Regiment. In combat they won more decorations than any similar sized unit in U.S. military history. It is unfortunate that they and their families did not win the respect of most people living in this country.
