Another great thing about City playgrounds in my day was the City provided older neighborhood looked up to jocks to supervise. We had a guy named Billy Burke. They lent out balls, bats etc and kept order. Many times they joined in activities. Politician John Burton played at My Jefferson school playground but no director could stop his potty mouth. The directors even played with younger boys and taught them the game and how to behave. To me a pity this is not done now. One area that was not good was I don't recall many females in the playgrounds. Maybe a few playing jacks or hopscotch but that was it.
