Sand Boxes in SF Parks

A recent news story suggested that San Francisco is on the way to banning sand boxes in City parks. KRON-TV has been quoted as saying, "Sandboxes will soon be thing of the past at parks around the city" as "San Francisco Recreation and Park said the decision to eliminate sandboxes was because sand requires frequent cleaning, which the department finds challenging."

It used to be that cleaning the sandbox (mostly of overnight kitty droppings) was one of the prime functions of managing a playground. Now the Rec & Park Department states that this practice is "challenging"? Uh, that's why the tax payers PAY to have that and numerous other "challenging" tasks performed by municipal employees.
