A couple of years ago, I reconnected with an old friend that I knew from high school days 50 years ago. We’ve chatted online and reminisced about a lot of Sunset District memories—she grew up on a great block of 40th Avenue near Lawton.
Recently, however, she mentioned that Christmas was no longer the same as it used to be—particularly with some relatives no longer alive and other family members living far from the Bay Area.
She just emailed me that earlier tonight, Christmas Eve, there was a knock at the door—and there stood her son, daughter-in-law, and two young grandsons from the East Coast for a surprise Christmas visit to California—something that she had only dreamed of, but never expected.
Christmas miracles still happen!
