For those that still read magazines, the Smithsonian magazine for January-February, 2018 is devoted to the topic "The Year that Shattered America 1968." It has really been an interesting fifty year look back. The articles covered some of the horrible things that happened that year, but also other events such as the introduction in San Francisco on December 8, 1968 of 'networked computing' ( it was not well received, no one thought it would be very useful to communicate by computer). And then there was the photo, also taken in December of that year, of 'Earthrise' by the Apollo 8 astronauts (Jim Lovell on Apollo 8 told mission control; "the Earth from here is a grand oasis in the big vastness of space." What a thing to behold.
