Most of us remember that our teachers—especially those in parochial elementary schools—were in their jobs for many years, with little turnover. Sadly, things are changing significantly this year for one Western Neighborhoods school.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Marian Mulkerrins Connelly, Principal of St. Cecilia School, who passed away last week at the young age of 56 following a brief illness. After nearly 30 years as a 6th Grade teacher there, she became the school’s first lay principal upon the retirement of her predecessor in 2012.
In addition, four other long-time faculty members, including the very last nun who retired from classroom duties in 2014 (but who continued on as Choir Director and a Learning Specialist) will be retiring just six weeks from now, in June. These five dedicated women represent more than 120 years of combined experience working with multiple generations of local children—and they will all be greatly missed.
