Re: Help me locate/identify a few stores

I remember GET (on Sloat Blvd) from the 1970s and later. At that point, it was no longer a membership store.

Somebody said it became a Gemco store. This may be true, but I never saw a Gemco sign on it -- just GET. (As you may already know, Gemco itself ceased to exist long ago. Back in the mid-1980s, Lucky Stores owned Gemco. To defend itself from a hostile takeover, Lucky sold off a number of subsidiaries, including Gemco, that were unrelated to its core grocery business. Many, perhaps most, former Gemco sites in the Western U.S. are now Target stores.)

Anyhow, I was cleaning some clutter in my house and found 8 paper bags, all of different sizes and styles, from GET. On each bag is printed the following:

GET

Lots of Free Parking

DEPARTMENT STORE

34TH AVENUE & SLOAT BLVD.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

(NEAR THE ZOO)

So, it was a place you went to get lots of free parking. (LOL)
