Six of us girlfriends were pals since grammar school (and the rest of our lives}. About the time we were seniors at Washington, we decided to go out to dinner once a year to a fancy restaurant. We dressed up for the occasion - even wore hats, heels and gloves and had our pictures taken! We picked different restaurants, but I think we all agreed our favorite was the Balalaika. We were there more than once and were always treated well. The food was certainly good - I always had the Chicken Kiev - and the piano player for a while was - you're going to have to help me here - played for a Dixieland jazz band - not Turk Murphy's. And there was a Zither player there sometimes, too, to fit the atmosphere.
