When we were young kids we enjoyed a neighborhood playground, school. quite a lot at Noriega Home School. It was on 44th and Noriega it was quite a big spread I went to Kindergarten there before i went to not so fun Kindergarten at Holy Name. Michael, Carol and Jimmy went there too the only one who didn’t was Mary she has a November birthday maybe that why. But I loved kindergarten at Noriega Home School. I especially liked finger paints on big easels with beautiful creamy, colorful paint. Naturally, I loved the graham crackers and mile and I think we had a rest time I didn’t mind that, the playground was fun with teter totters and jungle gym and a long low bar to swing from, balls to bounce around and lots of fun kids to play with me. I now remember my Mother allowed me to walk to school by my self. I was 4 when I started school there and turned 5 in February. One day almost too late I realized I forgot my underpants and ran back home. My Mother had 2 little ones at home and maybe that explains her exasperation I still can recall, she definitely didn’t think my oversight was cute that morning. But then back out the door and I went happily to Kindergarten with the help of a Policeman and his big horse on the corner of 44th who helped us kiddies cross the street safely. The Policeman was friendly with us kids and the horse was very impressive. Our teacher was kind and engaging and it seems there were 2 teachers around. Maybe there were 2 classes going at the same time, probably considering all the kids in the neighborhood. We planted a little garden with radish seeds and I was completely charmed by having those radishes grow and bringing some home to Mom. Kindergarten at Noriega Home School was, in a word, great.
