I was a 3rd grader Miss James class at West Portal Elementary. I have a clear memory of getting under my desk and peeking out to see the classroom light fixtures swinging back and forth. We spent the remainder of the day in the schoolyard. Years later the wing of West Portal were our classroom was located was demolished as it was deemed not earthquake safe!!
