In 1948 I had one of my first "15 minutes of fame" at the Bal. I previously posted this on Outside lands;
" I was a Cheerio Yo-Yo Champion having won my District Yellow sweater, complete with a full-chest patch declaring my newly won Champion status, at the Balboa theater. The contest was conducted during the intermission between the two pictures and was on the stage in front of the whole audience. I believe Cheerio was a Canadian company in competition with Duncan Yo-Yo's."
The Bal was only 22 at the time and I was 10yrs old.
