"The scent of eucalyptus, the sound of the two-tone fog horns and the whisper of the wind in the trees as it blew away the fog are my earliest memories. This was before I had words, when a baby absorbs through her senses, I guess.
I was born in the Presidio of San Francisco in the old Letterman General Hospital. My parents' first quarters were on Lover's Lane amid the trees. To this day I associate that eucalyptus fragrance with my childhood in the Presidio."
Thus I began my part of the family history that I've been writing for the past several months.
