Yes, I remember Mrs. Merrill only she wasn't principal at West Portal Lutheran then. Way before that, she was principle at Noriega Home School. And the only thing I have to comment about her was that she was a TOTAL BITCH. I say that because she would get a report from some kid about what some other kid said about them and I'm talking about children between kindergarten and third grade. And kids do a lot of bad mouthing. So what. They are kids for Christ sakes. So she would call you in to her office and make you confess that you said something bad about someone. The only problem was that much of the time, none of it was true but the kids learned that if they reported it to the principle that she would call in that kid and have them stand their being interrogated until they confessed to something they didn't say. So the kids took advantage of Mrs. Merrill's ignorant stupidity of convicting someone of hearsay to get back at other kids they didn't like. Stupid Stupid Bitch. Nowadays she would be sued for that in a heartbeat. That's all I have to say about her as a principle.
On the other hand, she may actually have been a nice person personally if you were her friend but she had a total disinterest in the kids and in being a principle. It was just a job to her. An interesting note is that for many years when Mrs. Merrill was principle at Noriega Home School you could see her waiting for the 18 line because she didn't drive.
But however bad, stupid and dumb Mrs Merrill was, she was nothing compared to the principle of Mark Twin, Miss Wiggums. Miss Wiggums was a tyrant. She was super high strung, angry mean aggressive woman who, when she walked down the hallways slamming her high heals hard and loud in to the marble floors with each step, instilled fear in everyone. She was 6 feet tall with huge arms. When you misbehaved she would yell at you at the top of her lungs and then grab you and shake you. I know she would have preferred to beat the living crap out of you if she could have done so legally. When you walked down the hall you were not allowed to speak. If you spoke to someone and she heard she would stop you and stand there with her hands at her side like a macho boxer who was ready to fight at an instant and try to find out who it was that just broke her rule and spoke. Kids were not allowed to ever speak together in front of her. I want to know what is so bad about kids 4th grade to 8th grade talking in the hallways.
