I remember the decorated firehouses well. There used to be one on Sacramento St. (near Maple) which was a block from where I grew up. I understand they discontinued the decorating because when responding to alarms, firemen were hurt by decorations that broke apart when the engines left the firehouses. Anyone know for sure?
I also remember my step-uncle picking us up and driving us around the Richmond, Sunset and Taravel districts to look at decorated houses.
Lastly, many fond memories of the winter carnaval on the roof of the Emporium. I was scared of the small ferris wheel because it lifted one high off the roof and I often thought we would go over the edge.
