Earlier in this thread Marvin E. Lewis was mentioned as the attorney for the cable car nympho. In his day, he was quite the civic leader. He was elected to the board of supervisors in 1945, 1949, and 1953 but lost the Republican Congressional nomination to Bill Mailliard in 1952. For many years, he helped run the fabled Moskowitz Luncheon Club. In addition to the sad case mentioned, he was the attorney for Joe Mazzola, head of Local 38 (plumbers and steamfitters) and airport commissioner, during his impeachment trial before the board of supervisors in 1976. There is a memorial panel to Marvin E. Lewis on a wall of the Embarcadero BART station celebrating his vision that helped create BART.
