I barely recall the election itself, as I was then only 9 and my family was very pro-Nixon anyway. My father often took me to the polling place but I am not sure whether he did that time.

I have a far better recollection of seeing both the Democratic convention and the Kennedy inauguration speech on black-and-white television. The antique podium itself suffered an electrical fire during the inauguration speeches. Also, I remember that one of my classmates, who became a television series producer, mentioned that he was a distant cousin of the president.

Of course I recall exactly where I was (in which car and where) when I heard the Missile Crisis broadcast on radio, and where I was later when we heard about the assassination. The last was so dramatic that I could today go to the classroom and point to the desk where I was sitting - probably many people could.
