A recent conversation with a friend who grew up in the Parkside had us both struggling to remember certain aspects of the library's "summer reading program" back in the 50s. My recollection was, from the time school let out, to the time it started up again in September, kids could sign up for the program.

The object was to read as many books as one could during that time frame. When the kid returned the book, he/she had to give a synopsis of the story to the librarian in order to earn points. Kids who read a high number of books got a certificate or something? Also, the name of the child and the # of books read was posted on a bulletin board?

Can anyone out there add to, or clarify this?
