Ideas for tracking down sunset home builder

Hi All!

I have been curious for a while about the origins of my home in the sunset district on 38th ave that was built in 1922. I visited the SF Library History Center and found the water tap records for my house. The party listed as obtaining the water tap is "W. F. Altvater & Co." which from my research seems to be a successful SF real estate firm that took many ads in the San Francisco Call newspaper. I see they also had an office at 1500 Judah.

That has been all I can find, any ideas about finding the contractor that built my house? Just telling me that it's a dead end would be good info too :)
