Following this logic, my immigrant maternal grandparents were first generation St. Louisans before they became first generation San Franciscans. (And Grandpa moved around to different cities before settling in St. Louis.) Or does it only count if you stay for the rest of your life? (Which they didn't.)

I think it's more logical that the first generation is the one born in a place, thus my mother was first generation and I am second.
