Small squads of paint can bearing teens with brushes moved up the Heights from all points of the compass. Keep in mind there were no homes above 17th, a brush covered hillside. Another paint laden gang was already up there. The Lincoln guys!
This is where I guessed we were involved in an operation much bigger than ourselves, an inter Sunset caper, school rivalries set aside, to crush a common foe.
Splashing, brushing and rolling paint, the large letters of LOWELL disappeared. Interrupted twice by oncoming cars, the lookout signal scattered us into the brush of the hillside.
