I was 13 at the time living on 15th and Quintara. My uncle had his party boat in Sausalito at the pier next to the Valhalla in Sausalito. He picked me up about the same time so many people were heading to the beach. We raced over the bridge to retie the boat for a possible water surge. Indeed the water did come up a bit, but the old Nunes Bros. pier survived the “tidal wave” and lasted a few more years. So did Sallys place. We thought the people going to the beach were crazy.
