I recall "Schlitzi" in the canival like attraction at Playland. There was also the alligator man and a number of other folks of oddity inside. Today this seems so inhumane. The barker was just like he was from a 1920's midwest traveling circus that one sees in period films. As kids he and the large painted pictures of those inside were an attraction to us. But you went once than the rest of the trips to the beach you saved your dough to go to the Fun House or Sutros because one could stay as long as you wished. Just about everything else was a one shot deal. Speaking of the film "The Freaks". I saw that in later years and it haunts me to this day. I will never forget the line "Now you are one of us".
