My fond memories of roller skating is of the long-gone roller rink at Rio Dell on the River. The roof leaked in the winter and as a result it was something like skating on railroad ties, but great fun. The floor-"cop" was a fat old man with a badge we called "The Sheriff." He tried to maintain discipline but was too slow to catch anyone. Now that I think of it, I don't think he tried very hard.
