I was a first grader eating my lunch on a bench at Commodore Sloat School in front of my classroom. I remember my friend, Michelle, asking the yard duty lady (that's what we called her) if the President had been shot.

Jerry, I had to smile at your recollections. I am also from a Catholic family and remember being somewhat confused as to who had been killed -- the Pope or the President --as they were almost synonymous names at home. I also later transferred to St. Emydius :(, but that's another story.
