I was a senior at Salinas H.S. We were getting ready for our noon rally for our Big Game with cross-town rival North Salinas. It was a shock--and, of course, the game was postponed and we all were sent home. I was a freshman at Capuchino when JFK was sworn into office. We watched our marching band in the parade (one of three California bands along with Lompoc HS and St.Mary's Chinese Marching Band). Like everyone else of our (and our parent's) generation, we remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and who was that comedian, Vaugh Monroe?...who imitated the president and one of his favorite lines "the rubbah schwaaan is mine!"
