Hiya, Paul!
Nice description of the '57 "Big One".
I was in Lafayette Grammar School at the time. It was pretty darned scary! Book shelves fell over and at least one of those 1930's vintage ceiling lamps, the ones which were hung by chains, came loose.
Fortunately, all of were underneath our desks shortly after this quake "hit".
The best part of it all was that I got to spend the better part of half an hour under the desk with Jeanne Lewon, on whom I had this big "crush" at the time.
Who could forget moments like that when you are nine years old?
