When Adolph Sutro tried to sell lots in his "Lakeview" neighborhood to potential buyers, he published an attractive sketch of the proposed community. Looking north, we see orderly streets lined with newly-planted trees facing a magnificent Pacific Ocean. In the upper middle is Golden Gate Park, a half-cultivated island among the sand.
On the lower right side, a steam train chugs its way from downtown San Francisco, through a cut, eventually to stop at the station in Ocean View.
